1 Coexistence in the 2 . 4 GHz ISM Band

چکیده
The 2.4 GHz ISM band provides an attractive medium for developing tethered free applications based on current and proposed wireless standards. Since the ISM band is a shared spectrum allowing unlicensed operation of wireless services, coexistence between the wireless services needs to be considered to ensure performance requirements are maintained. A general method for evaluating coexistence is presented. The method is based on developing a stochastic model to evaluate coexistence in an arbitrary operational environment. To develop the model, a three-stage approach is used where the first two stages use empirical test results to estimate parameters and to substantiate the analytical model. By using the model, coexistence is evaluated based on variations in the operational environment, which takes into account the uncertainty in an installation’s location and in the interference traffic. This evaluation points to potential trouble spots and helps in determining strategies for alleviating them. In addition, the model can be used to evaluate techniques for mitigating coexistence and assist in optimizing their utility. The evaluation methodology is illustrated based on examining the IEEE 802.11b performance in the presence of Bluetooth piconets, however, the methodology is general and can be used to address other coexistence issues involving packet based wireless protocols.

Coexistence Issues and Solutions for the 2.4 GHz ISM Band
This white paper presents information related to the IEEE 802.11b Wireless Local Area Networking standard (Wi-Fi) and the Bluetooth Wireless Personal Area Networking standard. Both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth products utilize the unlicensed 2.4 GHz ISM band. Due to their dependence on the same band, the potential for interference exists. This documents describes how products based on these technologies...

In this paper, we investigate coexistence of collocated 802.11 and Bluetooth technologies in 2.4 GHz industrial, scientific, and medical (ISM) band. To that end, we show a time division multiplexing approach suffers from the “avalanche effect”. We then provide remedies to avoid this effect and improve the performance of the overall network. For example, it is shown that a simple request-to-send...
متن کاملCoexistence Issues for Wireless Body Area Networks at 2.45 GHz
This paper deals with coexistence issues that may arise for Wireless Body Area Networks (WBANs) operating at the 2.45 GHz ISM band. Two different sources of interference are considered: IEEE 802.11 (Wi-Fi) and IEEE 802.15.4 (Zigbee). Firstly, these interfering networks are characterized both in the frequency and in the time domains. Then, the coexistence of a WBAN with these interfering systems...

Spectrum scarcity is known to be main obstacle to scaling of wireless network capacity. Spectrum sharing is a solution to this problem. The unlicensed ISM band is getting crowded by WLAN and WPAN users and devices. Spectrum sharing within the devices of same network is not a problem. But coexistence of WLAN and WPAN (eg: WiFi and ZigBee) is a challenging problem. Spectrum sharing among these ne...
